Emergency Fund Guidelines & Eligibility
The Emergency Fund is strictly intended for unexpected, urgent situations necessary to prevent significant pain, suffering, or loss of life, or to ensure immediate horse welfare. This fund is not intended for predictable operating expenses, routine care, or general budgeting shortfall.
Understanding Chronic Conditions vs. Acute Emergencies
Routine management of chronic or age-related conditions is the responsibility of the organization and is not eligible.
However, acute crises arising from a chronic condition may be considered.
- Ineligible (Routine Management): Joint injections, Cushings medication, long-term ulcer prevention, senior feed, or routine pain management.
- Eligible (Acute Crisis): A Cushing’s horse experiencing an acute laminitis episode, a horse with arthritis becoming suddenly non-weight bearing, or a chronic eye condition suddenly rupturing.
The fund covers the unexpected acute event, not the underlying long-term condition.
Eligible Applicants
Level A Members in good standing for at least 12 months are eligible to apply for funding to address emergency needs.
Funding Amounts
Grants from the Herd Health & Welfare Emergency Fund are capped at $500 per application.

Note: Incomplete applications will not be reviewed. Successful applicants must provide a follow-up report acknowledging how the funds were utilized.
Approval Process
Applications are accepted year-round or until the fund’s budget is depleted. The Board of Directors reviews applications on a rolling basis, and applicants will be notified of their status within 3–5 business days.
